On first attempt to load office2010, i had to cancel the install.  when i attempted the second time, the program would not accept the product code key.  what do we do now?

As Ron suggested completely uninstall Office 2010 following the KB article mentioned below and then reinstall Office 2010:

Note: In the article replace office 12 by office 14 for office 2010.
